Honest questions.
Is there really no per-host pricing?
No. You can run a thousand hosts emitting one log line each, and we charge you for the kilobyte that arrived. The hostile billing model where "per-host" silently doubles your bill when k8s scales out — we don't do that. The price on the slider above is the entire bill, except for whatever
$0.004/GB S3 charges you directly for cold storage. What does "queries included" actually mean?
It means you can run as many queries against your data as you can sustain. No
$/GB-scanned meter. The only soft cap is per-organization rate-limiting at 2,000 concurrent queries on Team and unlimited on Enterprise. If your dashboards refresh every 5 seconds, that is fine. If a junior writes a query that fans out into a hundred sub-queries, that is also fine — and we'll send you a polite Slack note that it might be worth indexing the field. What happens if I stop paying?
Your hot tier is suspended after 14 days, then deleted after 60. Your cold tier lives in your own S3 bucket — we cannot delete it. You keep the data, the schema, the segment format. The OSS binary you can run on your laptop reads exactly the same segments. We have, deliberately, made it cheap to leave.
Why is this so much cheaper than Datadog / Splunk?
Three reasons. One, we don't replicate your data across our own block storage — we use your own S3 bucket. Two, we don't bundle APM, RUM, CI Visibility and seven other products that you didn't ask for. Three, our query engine was built after columnar databases became normal in 2018, not before. The savings are not a sales gimmick; they are an architectural difference. Read the platform page for the long version.
Do you have a free tier? An OSS version?
Yes to both. Hobby is forever-free up to 10 GB / month on cloud. The full
crucible binary is Apache-2 licensed and runs anywhere you can run a 24 MB static binary — your laptop, your homelab, a Raspberry Pi 5 with a USB SSD. The OSS query engine is identical to the one we run in production. Is there a long-term contract?
Monthly by default, billed in arrears. Annual commits get a 10% discount. Two-year commits get 18% and a written promise that the price-per-GB will not increase over the term. We have never increased it. The number on this page was the number on our 2021 launch page.
How do I get a SOC 2 / ISO report?
Email
[email protected] with your company name and a short reason. We send the latest report (Type II, refreshed quarterly) under NDA within one business day. We also publish a customer-facing trust portal at trust.crucible.dev with the current control catalogue.
